Analysing Surface Coatings with
PATTERN EXPERT Coating Inspector
"PATTERN EXPERT Coating Inspector" is a software system for analysing surface coatings. It is based on the
Image Processing Engine (IPE).
Several different methods for testing surfaces are used in the industry. These include tests like
"SAE J400", the "multi-impact
stone chipping test", and the "cross cut test". Our software system is designed in such a way that it allows for an easy
integration of all these different methods. i.e. the user needs only this single program for conducting all the desired tests. There is
no need to become acquainted with other special programs, as everything can be handled using only this suite. Moreover, it is
possible to install additional test methods later and use them afterwards in the same program. All this makes working with
"PATTERN EXPERT Coating Inspector" extraordinarily efficient.
The software is an open modular system. This implies that customer specific requirements can be easily satisfied, e.g. a special
output format (protocol of results), a special test method, or a modified version of some standard test. In all these cases specific
modules can be developed on customer request, which are then usable via the program.
The program "PATTERN EXPERT Coating Inspector" uses image series, to which individual images can be added. Importing images
can be done either by loading image files or by using a scanner via the TWAIN interface. If a scanner is used, it is possible to
place the test sample on the scanner window directly. For loading image files, the standard raster graphics formats (like BMP,
JPG, TIFF, PCD, and PCX) are supported. When the user has selected the desired test, the according analysis can be conducted
for a single image or for the entire image series. The output of results depends on the selected test method and the selected type
of protocol.
The test methods currently available are:
"SAE J400" and "VOLVO VCS 1024". Shortly, an additional module for "ISO 20567-1" will
be available.
