PLG 06DV Sizing Tester
No matter what kind of materials are used, sizing is critical in papermaking. Among others, it determines the suitability of paper as blotting paper, or high-grade writing
or printing paper, or as a resistant packaging material. It is hence necessary for quality and cost-saving reasons to measure the sizing of paper, and to accordingly
control the production process. This is where the PLG 06DV sizing tester developed by IGT emus GmbH (Leipzig) becomes involved. The device uses a patented
measuring method: By means of a digital video camera, the resistance to penetration versus a test liquid (ink or oil) is measured in terms of the time which is required
to penetrate the sample surface to a certain degree.
The image processing software developed for PLG 06DV by PATTERN EXPERT captures penetration pattern images of the measured surface
and performs the required real-time measurements at a great accuracy. Particularly, the penetration pattern is analyzed with respect to
the statistical distribution of luminance across the measured surface and the statistical distribution of the differently colored particles,
allowing inferences about the stuff formation in the paper.
